What are smartphones?
In these days smartphones vary extremely from what we had several years ago. People tend to look for multi-functional devices that will not only fulfil their deepest desires, but at the same time they will be portable enough for everyday use. In order to combine these two elements, manufacturers have been competing with each other, trying to beat the competition. Because of that, we received plenty of brands. One of them may be your future phone. So, how to find the one that suits you best? Here’s the crucial aspects we should take into account!
What are the features we should consider while choosing our mobile phone?
CPU is the core element of each and every smartphone. It provides us with computing power that is essential for launching all software and applications. The whole concept of smartphones’ CPUs work on the same basis as the ones used in PCs and other computing devices. Processing power that each core generates is the reason we can open so many apps and still enjoy swift and problem-free use of telephones. Since 2007 Qualcomm has been releasing newer and newer system on a chip CPUs that are used for most of portable devices, including mobile phones. The latest models, Snapdragon 835 or Snapdragon 625 provides us with more than just one core. Thanks to that, we can hope for better performance and quicker loading screens. It’s worth to look for multiple core telephones.
Graphics processor is nothing else but GPU. In telephones industry the whole concept of graphics cards is pretty new on the market. The most notable graphics processor units are named Adreno. Initially it was the company owned by Radeon, but after buyouts and several name changes, Adreno became the creation of Qualcomm. Together with Snapdragon CPUs, they are crucial elements of many smartphones that are based on operating systems.
If we were to compare operating systems, we would focus on two the most popular, and the most recognizable OSes available on your mobile devices – iOS and Android. IOS is the creation of Apple Company, which is well known for their iPhones, iPads, iPods, and many other i-devices. Android, on the other hand, is available in variety of brands, starting from such popular producers as Sony or Samsung, and ending on the recent rage – Xiaomi, Huawei, and other less recognizable manufacturers. These two systems vary in terms of effectiveness. It is true that iOS devices are equipped with theoretically poorer specifications. Nevertheless, their optimization is much better than in any device with Android OS.
However, the problem with iOS devices may be a huge number of restrictions and limitations imposed by the creators. Because of that, we cannot freely transfer files and media from one phone to another or exchange our designs. It has; however, some positive sides – our devices are safer and harder to hack. Android-based cell phones are easier to customize and adjust to our own preferences, but they can be hacked much easier than the system issued by Apple.
The moment selfie-pictures became something more than just a temporary fashion, it was pretty obvious each and every smartphone will need two cameras – one on the back to take beautiful pictures of the environment and larger areas, one on the front to capture ourselves and our closed ones. If we compare cameras in smartphones, we need to take under consideration the number of megapixels. However, we should also notice what type of lens were installed in the phone, because they also influence the quality of the photo.
While comparing phones, always look for the highest number of RAM memory. To put it simply, the more RAM you have, the more applications you can launch at the same time and leave the rest in the background, waiting for your re-launch. In other words – high number of RAM memory equals great effectiveness in multitasking.
If we care about long-lasting smartphone that will withstand longer than one day without recharging, we should look for telephones with high capacity battery. Nowadays 3000-4500 mAh battery is rather standard. There are of course extremely large batteries with up to 10 000 mAh, but in this case smartphones tend to be heavier and less compact because of the size of the battery.
As for additional functions, we should compare resolutions, the current version of operating systems (some smartphones can be updated to the latest versions, but some not). Except for that, bear in mind such features as storage, the possibility to insert two SIM cards, and features that may be interesting for you.
Summary – how to compare smartphones?
If you want to find the perfect phone for you, then we recommend thinking about the most important things for you. It means you shouldn’t look for generally the best telephone, but focus on those aspects you care the most. Then, and only then, you can make the right comparison and find your favourite smartphone.
